Star Wars: Andor |
2022 |
When I first saw the original Star Wars, I remember thinking about all the other fascinating stories that must have happened in that Galaxy, stories we will never hear about. 40 years later, we're starting to hear some of those stories and Andor is by far my favorite. It is potentially the best quality, writing and production, of any Star Wars show or movie that has been made. It's unfortunate how much the politics of the empire resembles the actual politics in the US today. Very well written and cast.
So many fascinating charaters, in particular the character of Dedra Meero. I hope that Denise Gough got awards for this performance.
Very sad to hear that this is the final season. But, I guess we only had a limited time frame to work with. I hope we'll see more stories like this one.

Homeland |

Very much liked this show. Gritty and realistic (at least plausible) in a TV sort of way.

House of the Dragon |

I'm a big fan of this Game of Thrones prequel. I may like it even more than the original series, at least in part because there are more dragons.

Game of Thrones |

I did not love the books and didn't get into the first season or two of the TV show very much. But as the series went on and as I rewatched the earlier seasons, I began to appreciate them more. By the end of the series, I was a huge fan and admirerer of the show. Yes, the quality diminished a bit in the last season, but I was on board and let it take me where it wanted to go and accepted it and loved it for what it was, rather than some expectations I projected onto it in advance. Highly recommend it, IF your into this kind of show.

Battlestar Galactica |
2004 |
At the time this came out, it was probably may favorite science fiction show that had been made until that point. It lauched as a two part mini-series that was quite depressing and sad. I loved the portrayal of the Battlestar Galactica itself and the admiral was brilliant. There were aspects of the show that at first I didn't really love and as time went on they bothered me more and more. I began to loose interest in the final 1-2 seasons of the show and I don't think I ever finished it. But, I've watched the first 1-2 seasons a couple of times.

The Wheel of Time |
2021 |
Read the Books and I think they did a prettty good job with the TV show of creating a complicated fantasy story with lots of magic and supernatural effects. I would recommend this to folks who really like fantasy stuff, but I'm not sure that this show had much of a cross over audience to the mainstream, which is probably why it was cancelled early and never got to finish it's story.

I love how well this fits into the Star Wars saga. Did an unexpectedly good job of setting up Star Wars IV.

ONE PIECE |
2023 |
I removed this one from the Sciene Fiction category, because this show is comic book fantasy. Or, more accurately, Manga (I think). I think this show takes a kinda silly comic book fantasy and does a brilliant job of creating a live action version of it. I very much enjoyed this show, having very little knowledge of and no alligience to the source material. I don't know if Manga fans will like this show, but it your willing to put yourself into a comic book world, you may find this show to be a excellent adventure. Season 2 came out recently, but I've not yet had time to watch.

Dune: Prophecy |
2024 |
This is a good show, set in the universe of a book that is one of my favorites. For the most part, I'm on board for this show and loved what it had to offer. However, all through the show I struggled with the idea that it's set 10,000 years before the book/movie. 10,000 years is a very long time and yet things don't seem to have changed much in that time span. Why does this bug me so much?

Star Trek: The Next Generation |

This was once my favorite Star Trek shows. Very much enjoyed it back when it was fresh. Some limited attempts to revisit it recently suggest that it doesn't hold up very well and it seems unlikely I'll be going back to rewatch old episodes.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew |

I don't think I'm the target audience for this show. Although, it was interesting to see the first suburban neighborhood in the Star Wars universe.
I'm only 2 episodes in, this one still has time to turn around.

The Boys |
2019 |
The show is generally well done and has an interesting premise. But, it's a bit too much for me. Too much violence, too much cynicism. UPDATE: I believe the final season was recently released and this is one of those shows that I'm intrigued to find out what happened in the last two seasons, but just don't quite have the stomach to watch them. I expect I may eventually binge watch them, but given the plethora of other good shows on my list right now, it may be a while before I find the time.
